PROTECT YOUR HEART

All of us have people or items that we treasure.  Because we treasure them so much, we keep them close to our heart. So, how do we protect our heart?

Proverbs 4:23 urges us to keep watch over our heart because it holds our treasures and in it is potential for good or evil. Jeremiah said the heart is full of wickedness (Jer. 17:9) but when its purified, we are able to see the face of God. (Matt.5:8) We should use all diligence in the guarding of our heart.

How do we remove the impurities and uncover those secrets of the heart? It is through Jesus Christ. He knows the contents of our hearts.  In Rev. 2:23, He tells us, “I am He who searches the minds and hearts.” Allow him to search the deep places of our hearts. The song writer said, “Search me Lord. Turn the light from heaven on my soul.  If you find anything that shouldn’t be, take it out and strengthen me. I want to be right. I want to be saved. I got to be whole.”

We should ask the Lord for help in guarding our hearts. We may not always know what sin lies within, but He does. We can make the request as David did in Psalm 139:23-24, “Search me oh God and know my heart… and lead me in the everlasting way.”

Psalm 139:17-24
